Questions & Answers

Disabilities

Will it work for me?

Yes, it can work for you. Every knitter has their own style, the Knitting Aid helps you to knit with little or no style change. It is still you who is knitting. It may take a little bit of getting used to. Especially if you’ve been knitting for a long time.

Will it work with one hand?

In short, yes and no. This one is hard to promise as every user is so different. The best way we can explain it is that if you have some movement in the hand, enough to steady the stationary needle then it should work for you just fine. If you have absolutely no movement in the hand then it probably won’t work. But we are working on a one-handed knitting aid so please subscribe for updates.

I’ve had a stroke, will the Knitting Aid work?

To swap needle sizes you simply slide the beaded needles out of the frame and slide new beaded needles in. The Knitting Aid comes with four pairs of beads for needle sizes 3.25mm, 4mm, 5mm, and 6mm.

How do I swap projects?

To swap projects we find it is best to finish the row that you’re on, or to wait for a logical place to pause. To slide each beaded needle out one at a time, store your project somewhere safe and then to slide a new pair of beaded needles into the frame.

Knitting

What stitches can I create?

As far as we are aware you can knit any stitch that can be made using two straight needles.

The Knitting Aid doesn’t work particularly well with the “English Traditional” style, sometimes called “Throwing”. This is the style where you hold the needle as if it where a pen or a pencil. If you hold the needle in this way then you’ll have to adapt your style to hold the needle differently to use the Knitting Aid.
