About

The Knitting Aid was invented in 2007 by British Designer, David Hill. Inspired by his Grandma who had suffered from arthritis for many years, David explored unique ways to help her and people like her.

David’s Grandma testing designs in 2007

Together, they realised that knitting would have the biggest positive impact on her well-being. First, David learned how to knit. He then spent over 1,500 hours designing and testing more than 100 prototypes. His tests included wearing specially designed gloves and equipment to simulate the feeling of arthritis. Only the best prototypes made it to testing with real knitters at local meet-ups. The result was the Knitting Aid. A lightweight cushioned frame that holds your needles to give you support and comfort whilst you knit.

The Knitting Aid arrived today, which was very quick. I just wanted to say that within half an hour of setting it up my Mum was knitting. It made me cry tears of happiness for her as she speedily knitted perfect stitches again. She is already designing a project to start tomorrow. A wonderful liberating product. Many thanks.
